Symptoms
Match what you see in the laundry room to one of these and mention it on the phone. That lets us plan the diagnosis before anyone arrives.

worn shock absorbers, suspension rods, uneven feet
The wash is over, the clothes are inside, and the latch refuses to release.

Often points to
drive belt, motor control board, rotor position sensor
Towels smell off right after washing and dark flecks show up on light clothes.
Often points to
mould in the door boot, slow drain, blocked filter
Typical causes
A washer is a pump, a motor and a tub hanging on springs. Most breakdowns trace back to the parts that move water out or soak up the force of the spin.
A small electric pump at the bottom front pushes water out to the standpipe or laundry tub. Coins, hair elastics and baby socks slip past the filter and jam the impeller, or the motor winding simply wears out.
What you notice
A hum with no water moving, or a drain code at the end of the wash.
What gets checked
The filter gets opened, the pump motor tested and the hose route traced before any part is changed.
Front-loaders and many newer top-loaders refuse to fill or spin until the lock reports closed. A worn latch or burnt contact breaks that signal.
What you notice
Cycle won't start, a door locked after the wash, a dE code on LG or Samsung.
What gets checked
We test the lock with a meter. A jammed strike or bent door hook is sometimes the whole problem.
Front-loaders sit on dampers and top-loaders hang from four suspension rods. Years of heavy loads soften them until the tub knocks against the cabinet.
What you notice
Thumping at high speed, an unbalanced code, a drum that sags when you press down on it.
What gets checked
Dampers are checked as a pair, and the levelling feet too, since a sloped basement floor can mimic the same fault.

FAQ
Your washer's problem isn't listed here? Describe it on the phone at (289) 670-3413.
Often it is. A drain pump, belt or door lock is a small job next to buying and installing a new machine. If the diagnosis turns up a failed tub bearing on an older model, you'll hear that plainly so you can decide.
Leave the water where it is. Unplug the washer, lay towels along the front, and close the supply taps behind it if you can see a leak.
Yes. When you book, tell us the washer sits under a dryer in a closet and whether there is room to pull the pair forward.
OE is LG's drain error: the machine tried to pump out and the water level didn't drop in time. The pump filter behind the small panel at the bottom front is the first thing to look at.
When the smell comes from water left in the tub by a slow drain or a torn boot, fixing that cause takes care of it. Mould that has already set into the rubber boot usually means replacing the seal.
