It should hold about 4°C. If the middle shelf reads 7 or higher, food spoils fast.
Often points to

Symptoms
An inexpensive thermometer on the middle shelf tells you a lot. Note the reading before you call, along with anything from this list.
It should hold about 4°C. If the middle shelf reads 7 or higher, food spoils fast.
Often points to
evaporator fan, frosted coil, air damper
Fridge and freezer lose cold together, with the compressor running nonstop or not at all.
Often points to
condenser fan, start relay, dusty condenser coils
A white sheet of ice builds behind the freezer panel or across the rear wall.
Often points to
defrost heater, defrost thermostat, control board (LG Er dH)
Puddles inside the fresh-food section or on the floor in front.
Often points to
frozen defrost drain, cracked drain pan
No new cubes, small hollow ones, or water dripping from the dispenser.
Often points to
water inlet valve, frozen fill tube, ice maker module
A fan blade striking ice, a click from the back every few minutes, a rattle near the floor.
Often points to
fan motor, compressor start relay, loose drain pan
Typical causes
A fridge moves heat from inside the box to the coils underneath. Fans, the defrost cycle and the compressor's start parts keep that going around the clock.
Frost-free fridges melt ice off the evaporator coil several times a day with a heater, a thermostat and a timer or board. When one part fails, frost chokes the coil and the airflow stops.
What you notice
Warm fridge and cold freezer, frost behind the freezer panel.
What gets checked
The rear freezer panel comes off, the frost pattern gets read, and each defrost component is tested.
One fan pushes cold air from the freezer into the fresh-food side. The other cools the compressor and condenser under the cabinet. A seized or iced-over fan stops the flow.
What you notice
Noise from the back, a section that slowly warms, Er FF on LG models.
What gets checked
Each fan is turned by hand, its voltage measured, and its bearing listened to for drag.
A start relay and overload give the compressor its kick. When they fail, the compressor clicks, tries and gives up.
What you notice
A click every few minutes and both sections warming.
What gets checked
Most of the time the relay is to blame and the compressor itself is fine. That gets confirmed before anything bigger is discussed.

Health Canada recommends 4°C or colder for the fridge and -18°C for the freezer. Check with a thermometer; the dial numbers on the control are only settings.
With the door closed, a fridge keeps food cold for about four hours. A full freezer holds for roughly 48 hours if nobody opens it.
That usually means cooling has been switched off, a display mode meant for demonstrations. A button combination in the owner's manual turns cooling back on.
Yes, garage and basement freezers too. Keep in mind that many units aren't built for an unheated garage, and an Ontario January can stop them from running at all.
Only if there's a burning smell or the outlet looks damaged. Otherwise keep it running so the fault is visible on arrival, and move perishables to a cooler.
